Billund Aqua to build yet another landbased salmon farm in USA

Whole Oceans, a Maine-based company, has assembled a team of global leaders in land-based technology, including Billund Aquaculture based in Denmark and the Conservation Fund's Freshwater Institute in West Virginia.

The farm is expected to ultimately produce about 20,000 metric tons of Atlantic salmon annually. This calls for an investment of more than €200 million when the facility is in full production.

This is the second time a company announces plans to build large land-based salmon farm in Maine as the Norwegian company Nordic Aquafarms, last month announced plans to build one salmon farm in Belfast, Maine. The total expected capacity will be close to 50.000 tons when both facility is running for full.
