Minister Isabel García Tejerina, has approved the Multi-Year Strategic Plan for Spanish Aquaculture 2014-2020 that is worth €421 million.

The Strategic Plan, which forms part of the new Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), was prepared from an integrative approach, together with the Autonomous Communities and sectoral agents involved in the development of aquaculture.

The Plans revolves around four strategic objectives:
1. Simplify and standardize the legal and administrative framework
2. Strengthen the sector representation,
3. Increase Spanish aquaculture production from improving sectoral planning
4. Selection of new Aquaculture Zones of Interest.

Also part of the objectives are the strengthening of the sector's competitiveness through R + D + i, closer relations between the scientific community and industry, health management and wellness, as well as strengthening aspects related to the processing and marketing of aquaculture products through innovation, promotion and support for producer organizations.

To achieve these ends, 37 strategic actions have been designed, where the actions defined by the autonomous communities in their development strategies for aquaculture have been integrated.
