After a very successful expert and stakeholder workshop we held at the European Parliament, where we discussed future scenarios for fisheries and aquaculture, I would like to herewith kindly invite you to attend the final Workshop of the FEUFAR(Future of European Fisheries and Aquaculture Research) project. This 2day workshop, which will focus on translating future scenarios of Fisheries and Aquaculture into research needs, will take place in Heraklion, Crete on the 17th and 18th of June(arrival on the 16th, departure either evening 18th or on the 19th).
As you may be aware, the EU has commissioned the FEUFAR project with the aim of defining the research required in the next ten years, to permit exploitation and farming of aquatic resources set against the context of key challenges and risks for meeting sustainability requirements. The June workshop, both open to experts and stakeholders is the fifth workshop in a series in which the project team tries to get input from a wider audience on the findings so far. We are looking for a broad input from the fisheries sector, processing and trade, environmental groups and all other stakeholders as well as from experts from the world of fisheries and aquaculture research.
So far the project has produced an overview of the literature on studies looking at the future of fisheries and aquaculture worldwide. With the input of stakeholders and experts the main factors driving the fisheries and aquaculture have been determined as well as possible developments of these driving factors. A set of possible scenarios have been developed and documented. The aim of the workshop we are organising now is to translate scenariosfor fisheries and aquaculture that we have been developing over the past14 months together with you, into the final result of the project: a research agenda.

Some more information on the project and its methodology can be found onour website. Also the report of the March stakeholder and expert workshop (as well asof the other workshops), the literature review report and the report ontrends and developments in fisheries and aquaculture can be found on the website. Please inform Luc van Hoof  before May 30 2008, whether you/your organisation is able to attend this meeting and who will attend. He will arrange for lodging and your upkeep during the four days. We kindly ask you to take care of the transport yourself. Kind Regards, On behalf of the project team, Luc van Hoof
